What is a Firewise site?
The Firewise site mission is to:
- Protect the safety of our families.
- Preserve the value of our homes.
- Help the entire community to do this.
For more information, see the Firewise USA® program.
Am I already part of a Firewise site?
Mt Hermon has multiple Firewise sites rather than a single site:
- Mount Hermon Northwest (formerly Woodmill-Highland):
- Wendy Lord (Highland, Woodmill): [email protected]
- Karin Gallagher (Acacia, Canyon, Lilac, Woodwardia): [email protected], 430-6169
- Mount Hermon West
- Gavin Maxwell: [email protected]
- Mount Hermon Pine-Ridge
- Tim Galleher: [email protected]
- Verjene Kalashian: [email protected]
- Eric Gobler: [email protected]
To determine whether you are in or close to an existing Firewise USA Recognized community, enter your address in the search box of the Firewise Mapping Viewer.
To continue being qualified as a Firewise community, residents must submit their hours and dollars spent on Wildfire preparedness by November of every year to their site leader. In addition, community members are asked to read and help complete the tasks in the 3-year Firewise plan that site leaders created. For example, see the Mount Hermon Northwest 3-Year Firewise Plan.
Keep track of your “investment” hours and money that you spend on wildlife resilience. Site leaders will create and send you a form to fill out with your investment hours and money. Return this form to your site before October 21, 2026. For Mount Hermon Northwest, see Mount Hermon Northwest Renewal Survey
How do I get a discount from my insurance company for being Firewise-certified?
Contact your insurance company.
Submit the following documents to your insurance agent:
- Current Firewise Certificate. For example: Mount Hermon Northwest Firewise Certificate. It says 2025 (year issued) but it covers 2026.
- NFPR-approved SLV Firewise Communities Map. Zoom in to your address and take a screenshot of your site. For Mount Hermon Northwest, use the attached screenshot.
Insurance companies may request further proof that you are a member of a Firewise Community.
Some insurance companies give additional fire prevention discounts. For the CA Fair Plan, see Wildfire Hardening Discounts.
How do I become part of a Firewise site?
If you are not already part of a Mt Hermon Firewise site, you can either:
1) Join an existing site. Contact the closest Firewise site and ask what you need to do to join.
2) Start your own site. For instructions, email a Mount Hermon site leader and read:
